Tips for Responding to Personal
Ads
Okay, now you're ready to make contact. It's
important to keep your emails snappy, short and charming. Go into
too much depth and you'll induce the reader to snores. Remember -
this is flirting!
Craft a creative subject
line
Some members receive a lot of email daily, so make sure your
message stands out with a snappy message. Avoid standard lines such
as "Hi from xxxx", "Hello", or "Read your profile".
Be original
Don't use
the same message for every ad to which you reply. The member will
know it's a standard response you just copied and pasted. Humor and
intrigue are two great ways to break the ice and send those sparks
flying in cyberspace.
Be sincere
Show
that you have read their profile by referring to something specific
in the ad. If the member mentioned a love of travel, then talk about
your favorite travel stories. Open the dialog relating to one or two
things referred to in the ad. Ask suitable questions.
Be natural
Let your personality shine
through. Show that you have a sense of humor.
Look smart
Double-check your spelling,
punctuation, and grammar. People are generally turned off by poor
writing skills. This could greatly reduce the attention you get.
Ask interesting
questions
It will help break the ice and make it easier for the
member to reply.
Follow
their pace
Don't
bombard someone with emails, if they send 6 a week, don't send 34!
Who can contact
me?
Any premium member of
BoomerDate can contact you.
How
do I send email?
You must be a premium member to initiate
contact to another member. If you've found someone that sparks your
interest,

button on the member's profile. Enter a subject, and type your
message in the box below. Unsure about what to say? Read our tips

section of your Mates Mailbox, you will see the message you have
just sent along with any other messages you have sent within the
past 30 days.
How does the email spell checker
work?

you would like to check the spelling, click on the Spelling icon.
When BoomerDate spell checker finds a possible spelling error, it
will highlight that word and offer suggestions which you may ignore
or accept. If the correct word is not displayed in the suggestions,
you may manually enter it in the 'change to' box.

messages by printing them using your browser's print function, or
copying and pasting them into another document.

book. Members that contact you may be placed on this list making it
easy to find them in the future. You may place a member on your
Contacts List from the 'Inbox section' of your mailbox by clicking
the 'Add to Contacts' button.

My Profile
Creating and posting a profile is free and will
take only a few minutes of your time. The key to success on
BoomerDate is to take care that your profile is unique, sincere,
and congenial. If you're logged into BoomerDate with a username
and password, you've probably already completed the first section.
To complete the profile, go to your profile and fill in the
remaining sections.
Read our Profile
Guidelines before you create your profile to ensure that your
profile will get posted on the site. All personal ads are subject to
denial or removal if they do not meet our
guidelines.
Remember, your profile is the first impression
you make, and the quality will significantly affect the number of
replies you receive from other members. Not sure what to say? Read
below our helpful hints for creating your profile:
Helpful hints for
creating your profile:

Grab their attention immediately
with a catchy title. This is the first part of your profile
that members will see as it is listed next to your screen name and
photo.
Post a Photo. The surest way to
get noticed is to post a photo. Your profile will get many
times the responses as profiles that don't have one. When choosing a
photo, find one that represents how you normally look. Read
our tips for choosing a photo.
Don't lie. Being honest
will avoid dissatisfaction for both you and your prospective date.
Take your time in answering the questions. Your answers allow you to
highlight your personality traits and interests while helping other
members get to know you.
Be creative. Describe
yourself and the person you're seeking. Be your own biggest fan -
tell people why you are worth meeting. If you're not happy with the
number of responses you receive, update your ad with new
information.
Verify your spelling and
grammar. People are more inclined to take your ad seriously
if it shows that you put effort into it. Use correct punctuation and
capitalization. Ads written in all caps, or in all lowercase, with
no punctuation, make it hard for readers to understand.
Think about what you will write in the
essay portions of your profile. The better you describe yourself,
the more likely others will read your profile and respond to you.
Feel free to write as much as you want in the essay portions. If you
think of more to say later you can always come back and update your
information. Don't know what to write? Read our essay tips

Don't be shy -
think about some of the following questions to help people get to
know you. Write enough to get someone's attention and focus on the positive. You can share the more personal details once you get to
know each other.

What prospective
mates really want to know is what makes you different from everyone

read by describing an unusual anecdote.

What
are the guidelines for profiles?
You must be 18 years of age or older to
use BoomerDate.
At BoomerDate we take pride in providing
single adults a secure, enjoyable setting for meeting like-minded
single adults. Our Quality Care Team reviews every profile in order
to ensure that the content meets our safety and quality guidelines.
We reserve the right to refuse any profile that we feel is
inappropriate for this site.
Profiles containing any of the
following in the username, headline, narrative text, photo, or voice
greeting, are in violation of our Terms of Use, and are subject to
rejection or removal without warning or refund:
Profile narratives containing less than
100 characters.
Personal contact information including but
not limited to: your full name, home or work address, email
addresses, beeper numbers, cell or telephone numbers, URLs,
or instant messenger IDs.
Abusive, vulgar, or obscene language of
any kind.
Discriminatory language such as racism,
sexism, homophobia.
Discussion of illegal activities or
behavior.
Solicitations or advertisements of any
type.
Information that exploits or solicits
individuals under 18 years of age.
Adult-oriented content including but not
limited to nudity, overtly sexual language or discussion.
Solicitation of multiple partners or
additional partners.

in English for successful monitoring by BoomerDate Quality
Care Team.
Thank you for helping us to maintain the
pleasant setting that continues to be so essential to our
members.
What is
the approval process?
Once you submit your profile, your personal ad
and photo(s) go to our Quality Care Team for review. If your ad
complies with our guidelines we will advise you via your personal
email as soon as your profile has been approved and is live on our
site. If your ad does not abide by our guidelines, we will advise
you that you must edit and resubmit it. Read our Profile
Guidelines before you post your personal ad on our site.
What if I don't fill out my profile
completely?
Your profile lets other members know
that you are single and available! Also, it tells other singles
that you are interesting and worth contacting. When members look at
your profile, and there's not much there, it might appear that you
are not serious - why would they bother?
How confidential is my
profile?
Any personally identifiable information you
have provided is kept completely confidential. Members can only see
your essays, photos, and other information that you post in your
profile. For further details read our Privacy Statement.
What
happens if I hide my profile?
If you choose the 'hide my profile' option,
this will turn your ad into a non-searchable ad, and will not appear
in any search results. If you initiate contact with another member
however, they will be able to view your profile by clicking on your
username in the 'Inbox' section of their private Dates Mailbox.
Keeping your profile searchable will provide
you with a better experience, as you will appear in the search
results for everyone to see.
We know there may be times when you would
prefer to hide it, i.e. you're going away on an extended vacation,
you've met someone you really like, etc., so you may opt to hide
your profile by going to your Home Page and selecting 'Profile' and
'Hide|Unhide my profile'.
Why doesn't my
profile show up when I search?
If your profile doesn't show up, go to your
Home Page, select 'Profile' and 'Hide|Unhide my profile'. Be sure
that 'Please unhide my profile' is checked. Be sure to click
'Submit' once you make this selection. If you've already done this
and still have questions, please Contact Us,
and we'll be happy to assist you.
Why should
I post a photo?
The surest way to get noticed is to post a
photo. Your profile will receive many times the responses as
profiles that don't have one. And several images may generate even
more activity. You may post up to twenty-six photos. You must select
one as the main photo that appears in the search results, and the
others will go into your gallery. Other members browsing
your profile can click 'more photos' to see your gallery.
Tips for choosing a great main
photo!
Your main photo should be a clear
head-shot containing only you. Use a current photo, not a baby
picture, or one from your high school graduation. If you don't have
a recent photo, ask a friend to take one.
Choose a picture that represents how you
normally look. Avoid glamour shots unless you look like that every
day.
Choose a quality photo. A clear, well-lit
close-up of your face is more likely to get responses than a blurry
or far-away image.
If you are not slim or toned, keep your
shirt on.
Don't have an arm slung around the waist
of someone you've cropped.
Don't wear sunglasses - let them see your
eyes.
Important: Before you delete your main photo, you must choose
another photo to take its place.
Tips for choosing great
photos!
Your gallery may include group
shots, pictures of your pets, children, hobbies and anything else
that you wish to post as long as it meets all listed criteria and is
not copyrighted.
Read our Photo
Guidelines before you upload your photo to ensure
that your photo will get posted on the site. All photos are subject
to rejection or removal.

What is a
search?
Searching allows you to specify the type of
personal ads you want to see. You may perform unlimited searches by
selecting preferences such as zip code, age, and gender. Physical
attributes, lifestyle, and interests will narrow the search even
more. Experiment with an assortment of searches - you can never tell
where you might find your perfect mate.
What types of searches are
available?
Quick Search - Find singles based on
gender, distance and age.
Detailed Search: Be more specific about
the singles you would like to meet.
Great Dates: Our mutual matching process
finds members who not only meet your criteria but who are interested
in finding someone like you!
Who's Online: Find compatible singles that
are online now and ready to connect instantly with Mates Messenger.
Personality Search: Be specific about the
personality of singles you would like to meet.

"Yes" button at the bottom of the detailed search form. You may also
save your personality searches in the same manner.
How many searches can I
save?
You may save an unlimited number of searches.
What types of searches can I
save?
You can save a detailed search or personality
search.
How do I view my
matches?
Click the search button for Great Mates and
it will show you the results.
How does the Great Dates matching system
work?
This is our mutual matching process that finds
members based on preferences you specify and narrows that list down
to members who are looking for someone like you!
What is the compatibility
graph?
Want to see at a glance how good a match is?
The bars in the compatibility graph represent how close the member
comes to meeting the criteria you've specified in the areas of basic
info, lifestyle, personality, and interests. The blue bars represent
how compatible the match is based on a weighted average. The Level
of importance you assign when choosing your mates qualities has a
big impact on the results delivered. If the compatibility is 0, the
bars will turn to yellow . The red bars represent a warning as the
matching system determined that there was in excess of -50% or
higher incompatibility.
I don't get many matches. Why
not?
Are the preferences you specified too specific?
Edit your preferences and try to broaden your match criteria. Try to
start with a general search. The more specific you make your search,
the fewer names you will get back. Start with the three or four
qualities that are the deal makers, those things you absolutely must
have. Keep the distance to search wide enough. It hard to find a
match who lives down the street, but if you are willing to look in a
twenty-five mile or greater radius, your options will go up!
Why am I not getting many/any
responses to my ad?
Have you posted a photo? People want to see
what you look like, so the more photos you post the better your
chances of getting responses. Be sure your photo communicates your
personality. Read our tips for choosing a photo.
Make your essays more expressive. Snappy essays
will help you to stand out in the dating crowd, and help attract the
singles that are right for you. Click to read our essay tips.
Write creative introductory emails. When
contacting other members, flattery, and a sense of humor will get
you everywhere. Read our tips for Replying to Personal Ads.
Be sure to check your private Dates Mailbox on
our site. When you receive a message from another member it goes
into your Dates Mailbox. We send an email to your personal email
address to notify you that it's there. If you have mail in your
private Dates Mailbox, and are not receiving our notifications you
may have anti-spam technology in place that prevents our messages
from reaching you. Check with your Internet service provider if this
is the case.
What are the guidelines for creating my
username/password?
Choose your username, with care. Something sexy
may appear humorous, but it may generate interest from the type of
people you don't want to meet. Make sure your username expresses
your personality to ensure that it will play with the proper
audience.
Your username must have a minimum of six
characters, and not exceed twenty characters. It can be any
combination of alpha and numeric characters.
You password is your first line of security and
should not be shared with anyone. Select one that is easy to
remember so you don't have to write it down.
Your password must have a minimum of six
characters, and not exceed twelve characters. It can be any

other information easily obtainable about you. This would include

etc. 3. Don't share your password with anyone else.

How does BoomerDate Voice
work?

calls and voicemail messages using our double-blind phone system.

you first, and then the person you're calling prior to connecting
both parties. This is how Voice ensures that each party's actual
phone number is kept private and anonymous.

Placing Calls

for the member whom you are interested in speaking with.
When you've completed recording your message,

someone, you can decline the proposed time by following the

click "Call me" on a BoomerDate members profile page. Then just
follow the instructions.
Once you've signed in, you can propose a date
and time for your phone call. The invitation will be emailed to the
person you want to talk to.
Voice Greetings
Why should I record a voice
greeting?
Recording a voice greeting will greatly
increase your chances of getting noticed, and is an intimate way to
compliment your online profile. We encourage you to express your
personality and give other members some insight into the real you
through your profile voice greeting. We want you to feel free to be
creative, however, we do ask that you read our Voice Greeting Guidelines before you record your voice greeting to
ensure that your greeting will get posted on the site. All voice
greetings are subject to denial or removal if they do not meet our
guidelines.
Remember, the key to a successful voice
greeting is to present yourself with a positive first impression.
The quality of your greeting could significantly affect the number
of replies you receive from other members. Not sure how to start?
Helpful hints for recording your
voice greeting
Your BoomerDate Voice greeting is a 30-second
personal introduction. This is your opportunity to let other singles
hear what you have to say. You can talk about your ideal mate or
share an interesting fact about yourself.
Plan your greeting. It's
a good idea to plan out what you want to say before calling our
toll-free number to record your greeting.
Put your best voice
forward. When recording your greeting speak clearly and
concisely. Speak in a friendly tone.
Speak slowly. Slow down
your speech pattern slightly so that your greeting is easy to
hear.
Put vitality in your voice.
A monotone voice lacks enthusiasm. Stand up to increase
energy.
Phone rules apply. Smile
as you record your message, it will come through.
Modulate your volume. A
loud voice will irritate the listener. A soft voice may not always
be heard. Speak directly into the receiver, do not cradle the
telephone, or use a speakerphone.
What are the guidelines for voice
greetings?
At BoomerDate we take pride in providing
single adults a safe, comfortable setting for meeting other singles.
Our Quality Care Team reviews every voice greeting in order to
ensure that the content meets our safety and quality guidelines. You
must post your profile on BoomerDate prior to recording a voice
greeting.
We reserve the right to refuse any voice
greeting that we feel is inappropriate for this site. Voice
greetings that are in violation of our Terms of Use are subject to
rejection or removal without warning or refund and could result in
the removal of your entire profile.
